The Kent Mining Museum will provide a focus for the Kent coalfield’s communities and its long closed collieries; bringing together and conserving nationally important stories, memories, archives and objects. The story is a special one, with no previous history of coal mining, families travelled from all of Great Britain’s coalfields throughout the 20th century, bringing their skills and traditions to Kent.

We are looking for a Community Curator, whose key task will be to help unlock the unique social and industrial history of these communities; primarily though collecting, documenting and caring for their heritage. This not only includes the Museum’s own collection but also those of our community partners across East Kent, for whom the post holder will provide curatorial support.

The post will suit someone who has had some curatorial experience, is passionate about working with communities and is looking to take the next step in their career. The post is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and is offered as an 18 month fixed term contract (40 hours per week with occasional weekend working), with the possibility of extension subject to funding.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Betteshanger team. Based at the Betteshanger site in Deal, Kent, this is a full time position working 40 hours per week. Please note due to the rural nature of East Kent a full driving license and access to a car is essential.

The job description and application form can be downloaded from our website www.betteshangerparks.co.uk, or www.hadlow.ac.uk. Alternatively, you can request an application pack by emailing jobs@hadlow.ac.uk or telephoning 01732 850551.

The closing date for receipt of completed applications is Wednesday 21st March.

Interviews will be held on Friday 30th March.
