Position Expectations
The primary purpose of this role is to deputize for the Microbiology Lab Manager as well as be the trainer for the Microbiology team. The Senior role will manage the data created by the team as well as aid in investigations and CAPAs as required.
Key Areas of responsibility
• To work according to safety requirements of the Company and to ensure you are conversant of the “code of practice” for the laboratory.
• Ensuring that all personal training in the company policies, SOPs, safety procedures etc. is kept up to date and that these documents are followed on a day to day basis in line with GCLP (Good Control Laboratory Practice)
• Initiate and manage the training of the Microbiologists. Ensuring that they follow relevant standards on a day to day basis.
• Performing Microbiological tests as and when the business requires, such as
o Growth, Counting and Identification of Microorganisms
o Bioburden testing of In-Process, Water and Raw Material Samples
o Sterility testing
o Microbiological media quality control
o Processing of Biological Indicators
o Environmental Monitoring of Cleanrooms for both viable and non-viable particulates
o Challenge testing
o Reading of Media Fills
• Performing validation of laboratory methods and equipment as required
• Assisting in the maintenance of the calibration program.
• Assisting with the training of personnel required to enter the Production Classified areas and maintaining the spreadsheet for biannual training
• Active participation in OOS and CAPA investigations
• Recording of non-conformance incidents, analyzing data and identifying adverse trends requiring action. Participation in the subsequent investigation, carrying out any remedial actions as required.
• Generation and maintenance of departmental SOPs as required.
• Manage stocks of raw materials for the running of the lab and order further stocks when required. Compiling and writing of reports and uploading onto the document control system as required.
• Taking an active role in any Microbiological projects within the Laboratory.
• Identifying opportunities for Continuous Improvement in the way the Laboratory functions, including the systems used.
• Deputizing for the Microbiology Lab Manager in their absence.
• Carrying out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Microbiology Lab Manager
Competencies
• Experience in cGMP
• Experience and competency using aseptic techniques
• Excellent attention to detail including clear handwriting
• Excellent numerical, verbal and literacy skills
• Experience in Microbiological identification
• IT literate with practical understanding of Microsoft applications – Excel, Word and Outlook
• Ability to work both in a team and under limited supervision
• Effective communication skills and the ability to convey information accurately and consistency
• Ability to work to tight deadlines
• Good organizational skills
• Good problem-solving skills
• Smart presentation
• Enthusiastic and flexible
• Conscientious, approachable and able to use initiative
• Experience in using LIMS
