The Governance and Legal Services Department covers a wide range of services and functions of the University including general commercial advice, intellectual property, company matters, statutory compliance, risk management, student complaints and information governance.
The Role
The Governance and Legal Services Assistant provides key administrative and secretarial support to the Governing Body and its Committees and the Governance and Legal Services (“GLS”) team. The post holder is instrumental in achieving the smooth running of Governing Body and Committee meetings, the efficient running of the GLS office, and provides some personal assistance to the University Solicitor and Clerk to the Governing Body. Much of the work is of a sensitive and confidential nature, and the post holder will be required to work to tight deadlines in a professional manner, exercise discretion and judgment at all times as well as liaise effectively a wide range of external and internal stakeholders including Governors, staff, students and members of the public.
The Person
You will have A Levels or an equivalent recognised secretarial administrative qualification with experience of providing direct support to a board of directors, senior staff or working as a personal assistant in a professional office or similar environment.
A graduate qualification and/or experience of working in a legal department are desirable requirements. Previous experience in drafting minutes at board level or within a legal function is essential together with organising board meetings.
