International Buyer
Job Summary
Identifying new overseas sources whilst working closely with colleagues to ensure continuity of supply within existing UK suppliers. Negotiating and managing overseas suppliers with particular regard to cost, lead time and quality. To plan that purchases are made in the most cost-effective way.
Responsibilities and Duties
• Process operational material, plant and vehicle requisitions within required timeframe.
• Create purchase orders on internal procurement system (Sage).
• Gain good quality product knowledge for the business needs in order to facilitate operational requirements.
• Procure materials off Framework Agreements i.e. clients, group supply or site specific
• Regular communication with suppliers, building on good relationships to obtain best price and good delivery service.
• Assist with the clearing of invoice queries.
• Assist in the preparation of quote requests in close co-operation with the Procurement Manager.
• Monitoring and maintain the supply chain preferred suppliers register, identifying appropriate suppliers and ensuring that all the suppliers have current terms and conditions
• Monitoring the performance of suppliers, ensuring contract terms are monitored and performance is communicated as necessary to ensure continued or improved satisfactory performance levels are achieved.
• Check order confirmations.
• Responsible for ensuring stock control of company PPE and adequate stock is maintained.
• Provide monthly reports for Procurement Manager.
• Assisting where appropriate, with the contracting and tender documentation, monitoring and updating the contracts register
• Act as the intermediary between new suppliers and accounts department to set up new accounts and
• Negotiate and set in place new hire agreements with plant and vehicle companies
Qualifications and Skills
• IT literate – excellent working knowledge of sage software, word, excel, powerpoint, email and internet – essential
• Flexible, professional, articulate, creative – essential
• Proactive and driven – essential
• Strong customer focus - essential
• The ability to work under pressure and to deadlines - essential
• Team player – essential
• Effective verbal communication – essential
• Able to negotiate - essential
• Good knowledge of Civil Engineering materials and plant – essential
