Kent Police is looking for volunteers to play a new role in community policing.

Community Policing Volunteers are being recruited as part of a pilot scheme in the West Division which includes Maidstone, Sevenoaks, Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells.

The scheme is open to all adults aged 18 or above who are able to commit to 16 hours a month and interested in contributing to their local community as a volunteer.

As a Community Policing Volunteer (CPV) you’ll work closely with communities and businesses to promote community safety. You'll also identify and support vulnerable people through local engagement and working with partner agencies.

You'll be responsible for patrolling a specific neighbourhood, supporting the community by;
• Providing reassurance and point of contact in the community
• Use your powers to deal with antisocial behaviour and traffic management
• Working with them and partners to resolve longer term community problems.

Working closely with regular officers, special constables, PCSO’s and partner agencies; you’ll actively seek information and intelligence around criminal activity, disorderly or anti-social behaviour.

What we are looking for in you

As a Community Policing Volunteer you will need good communication skills to build trust and confidence within the community as well as manage information sensitively.

Important information

Applicants will need to successfully pass a standard fitness test and provide a medical certificate to confirm they are in good health to perform an active role.

Interviews for those shortlisted will take place during February with training starting at the end of April. The training programme will be 10 weeks, over five weekends.
