Our client, based in Maidstone, is looking to recruit a Junior Web Developer to join their internal development team, managing both the external website and the internal web based system. This is a full stack development role which will be extremely varied and a great learning opportunity for anyone taking their first step into a web development career. Experience of the specific languages mentioned is not essential, as we are interested in hearing from anyone who is a motivated and logical thinker, with an interest in IT development.

Reporting directly to the Lead Developer and working closely with all business departments, the developer’s responsibilities will be spread between project work and smaller pieces of continuous development using HTML, Java, Javascript and CSS.

Work will be diverse with projects ranging from implementing front end design and functional changes on the website, to back-end developments integrating 3rd party APIs into the system. The role will allow the candidate exposure to numerous web technologies as well responsive design techniques, agile development processes and continuous integration.

Responsibilities
· Write and maintain application code for the website, involving both front and back end changes
· Working closely with the business analyst, as well as directly with other business functions, ensuring changes to the system meet requirements
· Write test plans for significant pieces of work as well as test code written by other members of the development team
· Build and deploy application releases
· Monitor application performance, including identifying errors and working with the team to resolve

Requirements
Essential
· Any experience of developing in an OO language (for example Java, C++)
· Good web development skills including exposure to Javascript, XHTML and CSS
· Basic SQL knowledge of any RDBMS
· Degree in an IT or science based subject, or relevant commercial experience of a business application
· Logical thinker with an interest in application development

Exposure to any of the following is desirable
· JQuery, Json, SASS
· Spring MVC
· XML/REST and web services.
· Eclipse
· Unit testing (any framework)
· SVN - branching, merging, tagging or similar version control system
· Mobile / small device application development
· Understanding of threading, concurrency and JVM profiling
· Responsive development
· Any experience of Coldfusion
· Application Building with Maven and Ant

Work Conditions
· Office-based role located at the head office in Maidstone
· 37.5 hour working week, with some flexibility in hours
· Occasional evening and weekend work to meet deadlines or resolve issues
