Arjowiggins Chartham Ltd are part of an international paper manufacturing group based in Chartham near Canterbury. We manufacture, Creative, Graphic and Security Papers in 16 Industrial sites around the world.
As part of the Creative Papers division Chartham Mill together with our sister Mill in China produces 12,000 tonnes of translucent paper per year making us the largest producer of this type of paper in the world. On our site at Chartham we have a Paper Machine, Paper Converting, Logistics and Distribution, Engineering, Technical, Supply Chain, Sales, Finance, HR and Mill administration. There has been a Paper Mill on our site at Chartham since 1738 and we are proud to say the paper manufacturing continues today operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
We have an opportunity in our Technical Department for a Project Leader to work within our Technical team. The role will provide an opportunity for someone looking to deploy knowledge gained through their degree process to be involved in all requirements of New Product Development, technical process efficiencies linked to the Paper manufacturing process. In addition, you will learn and be involved in maintaining environmental (ISO:14001, FSC, PEFC) and Quality(ISO:9001) requirements for the Mill.
Education
• Ideally a graduate or HNC minimum. Chemistry, Paper Science, Physics, Mathematics, Material Science
• Computer literate and open to learning new software.
• Experience with statistical process control (SPC), data analysis and statistical skills) desirable.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities
• Coordinate and perform laboratory tests to produce reliable and precise data to support scientific investigations. Present findings to senior colleagues.
• Coordinate and perform environmental tests to produce reliable and precise data to support ISO 14001 business requirements. Present necessary findings to senior colleagues.
• Maintain the necessary fundamental and/or routine tasks accurately and follow strict methodologies through to subsequent analysis and interpretation/conclusion in an accurate manner.
• Provide support on production projects.
• Prepare reports, analyse data and make recommendations to projects.
• Assist or coordinate activities with other departments to deliver technical team objectives and promote good working practice.
• Operate, maintain and calibrate specific laboratory/manufacturing equipment to a standard required to maintain ISO quality standards.
• Monitor the use and inventories of required laboratory chemicals and supplies.
• Provide technical support as and when required.
• Work safely and with due regard to procedures, systems and general HS&E rules.
Technical Skills/Competencies
• Good understanding and application of laboratory techniques
Personal Skills/Competencies
• Self-motivated, self-starter
• Team-player & ability to work autonomously
• Effective communication skills both verbally and non-verbally (report writing/emails/SOP’s)
• Practical aptitude and attention to detail
• Punctual
• Goal-orientated, methodical and well-organised
• Competent record-keeping skills
• Current driving licence and EU passport.
We are keen to employ individuals who are enthusiastic, flexible and willing to learn and develop. If successful your hours of work will be Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm.
