Could you protect the waters around the Kent & Essex coasts by undertaking research and gathering information on the marine habitats and fish stocks found within it?
About the role
Working with the Lead Scientific and Conservation officer you will be part of a small team assisting in the development of Habitat Regulations Assessments and for the completion of Impact Assessments for any required byelaws.
You will be supporting research projects and carrying out GIS projects. You will also carry out survey work, following established methodologies as well as carrying out data recording and analysis. This work will be carried out both on land and at sea on one of our patrol vessels.
You would also be responsible for replying to consultations, liaising with marine agencies and attending meetings.
On occasions you would be expected to carry out warranted Fishery Officer enforcement duties, both on land and at sea, working as part of a small team on a patrol vessel as a member of the crew.
These duties would be carried out across both Kent and Essex, as well as occasionally outside the district.
About you
You must have a keen interest in the marine environment and a range of marine survey skills. You will equally enjoy outdoor field work and delivering desk based analysis and reporting. You will also be interested to be trained in carrying out enforcement of fisheries and MPA legislation. Highly self-motivated, you must have sound problem-solving skills and will be methodical, organised and have an excellent attention to detail. You must have good communication skills, both verbally and in writing, be flexible and possess the ability to organise your own workload to meet deadlines, as well as to motivate others to do so.
