Role: Ageless Thanet ‘Ambassador’

Hours: Full-time or part-time (depending on applicant), Monday to Friday (with flexibility)

Location: Community based with office at Mill House, Mill Lane, Margate

Salary: £16,000 p/a pro rata (depending on full-time/part-time appointment)

We are looking for someone who is excited and passionate about improving the lives of older people. A team-player, you must be self-motivated, passionate about improving communities and lives, keen to learn, highly organised and practically minded.

Ageless Thanet is a £3m Big Lottery funded project (part of the national Ageing Better campaign). The project is a partnership of voluntary, statutory and private sector organisation that have come together to improve physical and mental wellbeing and reduce loneliness and social isolation in older people.

We want to change people’s perceptions of ageing, and show people that growing old is positive and to be embraced. We want Thanet’s older people to make their voices heard and will help them to achieve this, working together, in partnership, cross-sector and with the community. AgelessThanet’s aim is to make Thanet a great place to grow old”.

Social Enterprise Kent is a community-interest business dedicated to improving lives and building strong communities in Kent. We, help people gain the skills they need to get back into work, and support other local charities, community groups and social entrepreneurs.

The successful individual will need to be flexible, proactive and have a great eye for detail. They will have significant experience in:

- Demonstrable volunteer supervision, training and supporting volunteers
- Demonstrable experience of relationship management between volunteers, service users and the recruiting organisation
- Monitoring, evaluation and reporting to line management
- Partnership working with other voluntary organisations on overlapping programmes
- Promotion of charitable projects and volunteering through public engagement
- Recruitment of volunteers

The role will involve carrying out many different duties, including working with the local community in the promotion of Ageless Thanet, and understanding the needs of communities across Thanet. This will include, but is not restricted to community organisations, resident groups, businesses and statutory partners.

As a project designed specifically to help older people, we would encourage people of all ages to apply. We believe strongly that age shouldn’t be a barrier to finding employment and we value the skills, experience and wisdom older people have to offer. In particular, experience of working with older people and understanding their needs, wants and ambitions is key.

Main duties will include;

- Volunteer supervision, training and supporting volunteers
- Relationship management between volunteers, service users and the recruiting organisation
- Monitoring, evaluation and reporting to line management
- Partnership working with other voluntary organisations on overlapping programmes
- Promotion of charitable projects and volunteering through public engagement
- Recruitment of volunteers
- Support the management of a small community funding scheme
- Engage with a wide range of stakeholders to promote and support the aims and outcomes of Ageless Thanet
- Ensure Older People are fully involved in the design and delivery of services.
- Dealing with customer, partner and stakeholder enquiries
- Any other reasonable task as required by your manager
