Do you want to talk about skiing or snowboarding all day and make people’s holiday dreams come true? Our sales consultants are the first point of contact our customers have with our Company and their role is to promote the image and values of our business by providing a fantastic service to the client, putting together a holiday package to suit the client’s needs and providing excellent customer service throughout the booking process and beyond.

The sales consultants advise on the most suitable accommodation for the holiday taking into consideration the requirements of the individual client group – they then add travel arrangements and services in resort (such as ski passes, lessons and equipment rental) to create the perfect bespoke holiday. They create a friendly but professional relationship with each client to respond to their questions throughout the process up until their arrival in the resort and beyond – with the aim of retaining clients in the long term to return to us for their ski holidays each year.

Our sales consultants have first-hand knowledge of the holidays they are selling – the induction training programme includes a trip to the resort to see all our properties and at the end of each ski season the team enjoy an educational trip where they experience the whole holiday from start to finish. You will be talking about skiing and snowboarding all day – so if you already have some experience of this, that will be a great advantage!

The apprentices will be sponsored by the Company, under the government’s apprenticeship scheme, to train to achieve a Level 3 Diploma in Customer Service over the course of 18 months, which will cover two winter ski seasons. The apprenticeship will involve a structured course of study, based around the workplace and gradually learning the job itself in a hands-on way through workplace training, home study and day or block release workshops. During the quieter summer months, there will be project work to support the ongoing development of the individual.

The Job

Your apprenticeship will start with a structured in-house induction course, designed to introduce you to the company, the basic sales skills and the holidays we provide. You will be trained in product knowledge covering all aspects of the holiday and will also be fully trained in the use of our bespoke reservation system and other sales support applications you will use in the course of your job. After the intensive induction, you will work initially under close supervision for the first few weeks to begin to deal with enquiries and this will be followed by an educational trip to the resort. On your return, you will be expected to carry out the sales consultant role with the following responsibilities – constantly building on your knowledge throughout the first winter season, alongside your studies:

• Responding to enquiries for holidays (either catered chalets or self-catered apartments) by phone, email or on-line according to the performance standards required
• Dealing with reservations, selling holidays and ancillary services and accurately maintaining the reservation system
• Booking administration and client confirmations
• Managing options and enquiries – ensuring systematic follow up of all sales leads to maximize conversion and maintain options taken by clients
• Dealing with booking changes, client questions and requests for information
• Selling resort services and extras (ski passes, lessons, equipment rental, travel services) – proactively selling, taking orders and actively chasing to complete all bookings each week, making the relevant bookings with the suppliers according to the sales targets in force
• Achieving sales targets for all product streams
• Using your skills, knowledge and initiative in your day to day work, but knowing when to ask for help or advice when dealing with client requests

During the quiet summer months, you will continue to respond to enquiries and maintain contact with our clients – and you will also work to support the management team with the preparations for the following season and any sales and marketing initiatives which are in progress. You will also be set project work appropriate to the training programme.

The Candidate

The successful candidates will be based at the Company’s Head Office in Maidstone, Kent but must be prepared to travel as necessary for the proper fulfilment of the role, including attending all training events in proper completion of the course and spending periods abroad in resort as necessary.

We are expecting these roles to be attractive to school or college leavers who satisfy the skills and qualifications requirements below – however, applications are equally open to older or experienced candidates who are looking for a change of career and the opportunity to train for formal qualifications alongside a job. All applicants must satisfy the requirements of the government apprenticeship scheme.

Skills and Qualifications Required

• You must have achieved at least 5 subjects in GCSE Grades A to C with at least Grade 5 or “C” at GCSE Maths and English
• You must be very organised, efficient and motivated by results – you will be keen to learn and develop your skills
• You will have good ICT skills and be fast on the keyboard (which will be tested). You may not have necessarily chosen ICT as a GCSE option but you need to have some knowledge of Microsoft Office and in particular Word and Outlook – our business is run by a bespoke Reservations System for which you will be trained but we expect you to know your way around using the internet and general computer use.
• You need to have a confident and chatty personality – but understand the importance of focus and productivity in the workplace
• You will need excellent writing skills and be able to write persuasive and informative replies to enquiries with correct grammar, spelling and punctuation.
• Flexibility is required with working hours as you will be expected to work on a shift system during the winter to cover the opening hours of the office which are 7 days per week - from 09h00 to 21h30 during the week and 10h00 to 18h00 at weekends and bank holidays. You will work a mixture of late and early shifts (most likely one late shift per week from November until March) and weekends and bank holidays are shared between the team on a monthly rota.
• Ideally, you will be a skier or snowboarder yourself to understand what a client needs on their holiday – maybe you’ve been on family ski holidays or school ski trips or even just tried out the indoor or dry slopes in the UK? If not, then you would need to be prepared to do some pre-employment research to learn the basics – which we can help you with
• Overall – you must be motivated to succeed and committed to the development of a career in a fast moving industry which serves a demanding public

The Benefits

• Starting basic apprenticeship salary £8,500 for a school/college leaver plus guaranteed increases on qualification
• Commission and incentive scheme for personal and team sales results
• 40 hours per week
• 28 days paid holiday per annum, including the UK public holidays
• Formal training to work towards the Level 3 NVQ Customer Service – one day per week of your working time will be allowed for study and you will also need to invest some of your own time to achieve your study goals
• All training costs will be paid by the Government or by the Company – there are no costs to the candidate
• Annual ski holiday and educational trip to the Alps at the end of the ski season and an educational trip as part of your induction training
• Permanent positions available on qualification for the best apprentices
