Position Overview: Maintenance staff are involved in a full range of duties including construction of new enclosures and buildings; together with the maintenance and repair of existing structures and day to day care & maintenance of the site. The Big Cat Sanctuary has a large and dedicated team of volunteers, you will be tasked with working alongside and supervising groups of volunteers and visitors on team building exercises with a full range of general site and enclosure maintenance duties. Integral to the job is the requirement that all Health & Safety legislation is adhered to ensure both animal and personal, and visitor security. NB. This role is required to wear the full uniform and PPE provided.
Overview of Duties and Responsibilities include:
work within the guidelines of health and safety procedures to ensure both animal and personal, and visitor security; contribute to the preparation of risk assessments for all hazardous work, ensuring safety measures are implemented
contribute to the day to day prioritisation and completion of building/maintenance work, ensuring optimum use of the available staff (including volunteers & students) to provide an exemplary service and appropriate response to ad hoc maintenance requests
assisting with the servicing, maintenance and upkeep of all vehicles and machinery loaned to/owned by the organisation including, but not limited to weekly fuel, oil and water checks and ensuring all associated documentation is kept up-to-date
gardening tasks will vary and may include: soil cultivation, digging, forking, mulching, watering, raking, weeding, edging, pruning, bed preparation and planting; lawn maintenance and cultivation; the use of cylinder and rotary mowers, strimmers & leaf blowers
Essential:
• Experience of general facilities maintenance
• Full, clean driving licence; own transport essential
• Be able to work well alone and as part of a team
• Eligibility to work in the UK
Desirable:
• Competent in the use of plant machinery
• Experience in health and safety particularly with risk assessments
A reliable form of transport is essential due to the remote location and start/finish times.
