Part Time Cook required for a 20 bed Residential Care Home in Chatham
Job Summary:
To support the cook in the provision of a high quality, well balanced, home cooked menu in the home. To support the cook in maintaining appropriate stock levels. To operate at all times in accordance with health and safety and environmental health guidelines.
Due to the demands and nature of the business you will need to be flexible in your working hours and be available to work some weekends and Bank Holidays You will be given your rota in advance.
The job is a physical one so a good level of fitness is required
Pay will be dependent on qualifications and experience

Key Skills:
Should be a competent cook and ideally hold a valid Food Safety Certificate although training can be provided for the right candidate.
Key Tasks:
• To support the cook in preparing a high quality, balanced menu covering a four-week period which should be reviewed regularly to account for both seasonal considerations and as far as possible, for residents’ individual tastes and preferences.
• To account for residents’ dietary requirements (e.g. diabetic, pureed)
• To prepare and cook food for lunch for up to 20 residents. This includes the preparation and cooking of vegetables and any preparation required for supper.
• To support the cook in preparing orders and maintaining a level of stock of all items required for use in the kitchen.
• To ensure that all equipment used in the kitchen is kept clean and maintained at a high level to meet environmental health standards.
• To be responsible for meeting all relevant guidelines in connection with the preparation of food and conduct in the kitchen. This includes but is not limited to Environmental Health guidelines, Health and Safety at Work.
• To work together with all other staff in maintaining standards in accordance with the Philosophy of Care of the Home
• To identify personal training and development needs and participate in the Staff Personal Development Programme.
• To bring to the attention of the Manager any inadequacies which may be to the detriment of residents’ safety and welfare or that of other staff working in the kitchen area
• To be aware of responsibilities with regards to; National Minimum Standards, Health and Safety, Manual Handling, Fire Procedures, Risk Assessments and general policies and procedures.
• To attend training sessions and general staff meetings as required.
• To cover the absence of colleagues during periods of annual leave and sickness.
Any other tasks as may be delegated by the Manager
