We are looking for hand on individuals with a logical mind to come and learn how to operate a Waste from Energy plant. The Apprenticeship will take the successful candidate through every operational role on site and give them the opportunity, at the end of the apprenticeship, to move into a number of different roles within the sector.
The successful candidate will be trained to a high level in all aspects of operating a Energy from waste plant, safely, responsibly and profitably including:
- The receiving and consigning waste and by products,
- Driving and operating heavy mobile plant and cranes,
- Hand on operation of process plant, including the incinerator, compressors, turbines, generators, boilers, conveyors, shredders, fans, valves, turbines and pollution control equipment,
- Carrying out operational inspections, checks and routine and in addition carrying out first line maintenance and inspections,
- Fault finding: learn to use a logical approach in finding defects and causes for failures in various equipment.
- Trained to work safely: Write risk assessments, and procedures in order to work safely.
- Be part of a motivated and successful team.
Working Week- The specific working hours will depend upon the operational rota and training requirements.
Total hours per week- 40.00
Desired skills:
A logical person who is calm under pressure and works well as a team. Must also be computer literate.
Personal qualities:
The role will suit a person with a hands on approach; a practical person with a logical thought process, who is inquisitive. The individual must be respectful, have a hard working ethos and ideally with good communication skills.
Qualifications required:
You will need to have GCSE Grades A* - C in Maths and English. Equivalent awards and appropriate GNVQ/BTEC achievements will also be considered.
This Intermediate Apprenticeship in Improving Operation Performance will consist of the following framework:
Level 2 QCF (NVQ) in performing manufacturing operations (On the job portfolio - IPS)
Level 2 QCF, in improving environmental awareness. (Distance learning package – 40 hours)
Level 1 Functional skills (Maths / English) if required.
Employee Rights and Responsibilities. (Distance learning – 6 hours)
Personal learning and thinking skills (Embedded in into level 2 QCF sessions)
Additional learning (H&S part 1, Shovels, overhead cranes, fork truck, duty of care, Weighbridge, Confined Space Entry, etc).
All of the training will take place within the workplace; however the apprentice may need to attend IPS International, Rochester for set exams and possible workshops throughout the apprenticeship.
