Our client is looking to recruit an RPG Analyst Programmer to enhance the current IT team and help improve their applications and systems. We are looking for an experienced iSeries / IBM AS/400 technician with excellent business process knowledge (ideally ERP) and problem solving skills that can write RPG, use SQL and manage the system as well as undertaking other projects.
The role is a combination of business analysis, support, development (RPG / CL / SQL) of the ERP applications and report writing.

Leadership & Teamwork
1. Liaise with the team and other departments to understand technical and business requirements.
2. Work with the IT Team in Belgium on any group projects.

Communication
1. Document and update support calls and their outcome to facilitate the resolution of common queries.
2. Proactively provide information to users on the progress of outstanding support calls.

Strategic & Innovation
1. Develop user-friendly solutions for any requirements requested by the business.
2. Assist with writing user guides and procedures in order to provide self-help to users.

Analytical
1. Assess the impact of business and system change requests.
2. Document detailed requirements for each change request to proceed.
3. Write functional specifications for approval by user before passing to developers.
4. Test all application changes before managing user testing, obtain signoff from user or document additional changes.
5. Manage promotion of Changes to Live environment and ensure planned and reversible.

Responsibilities & Expertise
1. Provide support for ERP users and applications on a daily basis.
2. Support of EDI applications and messages in and out of systems.
3. Identify any application bugs and escalate with any suggested fix to the Head of IT.
4. RPG development and testing of user changes/requirements as needed by the business.
5. Support BI Reporting changes or issues.
6. Manage daily AS/400 operations, keeping the system stable and downtime to a minimum.
7. Manage AS/400 Backups, Full System Saves and tape cycles.
8. Monitor all systems to keep all system downtime to a minimum.
9. Provide Out of Hours support when required and document any calls received.

Skills and abilities:

Essential skills required for the role:
· Solid RPG / ILE / CL Development experience on AS/400 (IBM i) (5 years min)
· Experienced using Query, SQL and reporting tools
· Working knowledge of AS/400 backups, IPLs, system security, work management
· Problem solving, analysis and documentation
· Good understanding of ERP Applications

Desirable:
· Excel VBA
· Any Disaster Recovery or High Availability experience would be beneficial
· EDI - EDIFACT, Tradacomms and AS2 message formats
· BI Software knowledge Pentaho or Cognos
· AS/400 Forms Design using Interforms
· Good understanding of Windows / Servers
· Any knowledge of using Linux / MySQL / PHP

Some occasional European travel will be required with this role.
