PERSONAL CARE WORKER

Reporting to: Care Coordinator, Management Team, Registered Manager & Company Directors.

Hours of availability required to be flexible, we currently have both full and part time work available, shifts may include, morning, afternoon, days, awake nights, weekends.

Premium pay for weekends, awake nights and various other periods of the year.

Pay rates range from £9-£11 with pay enhancements of time and a half to triple pay at various times of the year.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


The Personal Care Worker role is to provide a service of care to Service Users to enable them to lead as independent a lifestyle as possible. This care service will involve a programme of personal care and household management that is personalised for each Service User in the form of a Care Plan.

Personal Care Workers whilst performing their duties will look after the physical, emotional cultural and social needs of the Service Users using a person centred approach.

Personal Care Workers will create and maintain good professional relationships with Service Users, their family, friends and other stakeholders upholding a professional atmosphere during the conduct of their duties.

Personal Care workers will operate within their given teams and actively support and assist their colleagues.

Care duties will therefore include assisting the Service User with the any of the following activities and in so doing will at all times observe and respect the Service Users dignity, privacy and independence as far as practical:

Personal Care:

Duties may include the following, however this list is not exhaustive and other duties may be undertaken as necessary..

Dressing and Undressing – preparing the Service User for Day Care or trips out.
Washing, bathing, showering, shaving, grooming, cleaning teeth.
Hair care (washing, brushing).
Nail care (fingernails only).
Toileting and all aspects of personal hygiene.
Continence management.
Care of pressure sores (under appropriate nursing supervision)
Getting in and out of bed.
Assisting with the use of aids to daily living, rehabilitation aids, as required.
Helping with rehabilitation programmes, as prescribed by healthcare professionals.
Day, evening, night sitting services, as required.

Healthcare:

Assisting the Service User to take prescribed medication.

Dietary Care:

Preparation of snacks and meals according to the Service Users likes and dislikes.
Assisting with feeding, as required.

Domestic & Household Services:

General cleaning duties, to include cleaning, dusting, vacuuming, polishing.
Bed making.
Clearing of refuse and rubbish.
Laundering, hand washing, ironing, light needlework, as required.
Fuel management.
Shopping, and the preparation of shopping lists and assistance with budgeting.
Light gardening tasks (subject to previous agreement at the Care Plan stage)

Personal services:

Assistance with personal finances, to include paying bills, collecting pensions.
Personal planning (birthdays, anniversaries etc).
Democratic rights (voting cards etc).
Personal Care Workers are required to conform to all Policies and Procedures operated by the Company in respect of carrying out these care duties and in other administrative aspects of the business, as relevant.

Personal Care Workers are required to adhere to all statutory and regulatory obligations as well all Company requirements.

Personal Care Workers are to participate as directed by the Care Coordinator and Registered Manager in induction training and regular in service training programmes.

Personal Care Workers are to maintain accurate, concise and timely records of Service User care, diary sheets, time sheets and mileage records.

Personal Care Workers are required to participate in staff, team and quality management review meetings as directed by the management team.

Personal Care Workers are required to operate all manual handling equipment safely and correctly.

Personal Care Workers are required to report back to the Care Coordinator, Registered Manager or other members of the management team on any aspect of Service User care which he/she feels warrants investigation or urgent action.

Personal Care Workers are required to contribute and participate in Service Users Care Plan reviews, as required.

Personal Care Workers must protect the confidentiality of all information relating to the Service User and not divulge information to anyone who is not authorised to receive it.



HEALTH & SAFETY

Personal Care Workers are required to observe all Health and Safety rules and take reasonable care to promote health and safety of self and others, raising any concerns to the management team immediately upon identification.

To be familiar with the Company’s obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act
1974 and the other Health and Safety Regulations detailed in the Company’s Health and
Safety Policies.

At the direction of the Registered Manager - to carry out risk assessments under the
Health and Safety requirements.

To keep the Registered Manager informed of the outcomes and issues that are identified
concerning Health and Safety issues.


GENERAL:

To carry out any other tasks required by the Registered Manager, or other senior management that are commensurate with the level of responsibility this role requires.

Any other relevant duties as required to enable the Company to operate to meet its operational requirements
