Port Lympne Reserve, in conjunction with Howletts Wild Animal Park and the Aspinall Foundation, are a leading charity based organisation, committed to protecting rare and endangered animals from extinction, through captive breeding and reintroduction programmes. The award winning wild animal parks, two of Kent’s most prominent visitor attractions, have undergone many new and exciting projects including the extension and development of our Dinosaur attraction at Port Lympne Reserve.
The Role:
We are currently recruiting for an Education Officer to provide educational talks and tours to our visitors at our exciting Dinosaur attraction. The job role will involve organising, writing, and providing educational presentations. Talks will be provided to day visitors, school groups and bespoke groups. The talks will be aimed at all ranges, formal or informal, whilst presentations will be about the dinosaurs they will include information about the parks, their history, the animals, and the conservation work of the organisation. The job holder will also maintain the forest when not providing talks, they will have an active role in the development of the services provided by the department, and also provide private tours for small groups/families.
The Person:
We are looking for an organised, self-motivated person with good interpersonal skills. You will need to be an accomplished public speaker and confident in presenting talks to the public. It is essential that the candidate has good overall knowledge of natural history and a good general knowledge about all of the animals at Port Lympne Reserve. A qualification or experience gained in the field of palaeontology would be desirable, along with previous experience of teaching or working in an educator’s role.
The role is 40 hours, worked 8am till 5pm, five days a week two of which will be Saturday and Sunday. The job holder will also be required to work on bank and public holidays.
