This is an exciting opportunity for a Press Officer to join the Corporate Communications team on a full-time and ongoing basis.You will support the Head of Press Relations in the implementation of high impact media strategies to enhance Kent’s national and international profile. You will be expected to achieve high levels of media coverage and have the ability to present complex research findings to wide-ranging audiences.
As Press Officer you will
- Develop and maintain the University’s national and international media profile
- Provide strategic media support and direction to academic schools
- Advise key members of staff, including the Executive Group, on media relations
- Have a key role in any crisis management activities
To be successful in the role you will have:
- A degree or equivalent qualification / experience
- A proven track record in media engagement, including experience of working on major news stories
- A good awareness of current affairs and developments within the HE sector
- The ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and targets
The Corporate Communications Department seeks to build and protect the institution’s reputation at a regional, national and international level. The department is comprised of a team of professionals with the director reporting to the Vice-Chancellor.
The team works in collaboration with colleagues across the institution and engages with a wide range of stakeholders including the media, national agencies, staff, students and the local community. Departmental activities include press relations, reputation management, brand guidance, staff and student communications, publications, stakeholder engagement, digital and social media activities and corporate marketing campaigns. The department leads on the institution’s crisis communications response.
