LKM Recycling are a Total Waste Management Solution business supplying services to small, medium and large companies working with them to deliver 100% recycling/recovery for all the waste types they produce. We have been in business for 40 years and operate out of the Eurolink Industrial Estate in Sittingbourne. Our speciality is in the recycling of scrap metals as well as all other types of waste.

We have a clear business vision and ambitious growth plans for the next 5 years and truly believe it is the people in the business that will get us there. It is for this reason we are currently investing heavily in the training and development of our people, providing them with great learning and progression opportunities.

We are looking for a self-motivated, ambitious individual who is willing to learn the full recycling business we carry out, who can help us to become more compliant and take us to the ultimate standards of Health & Safety in the waste solutions industry within the next 5 years. With a true team spirit, the successful candidate will be willing to assist in the management of our Environmental policies and help us to achieve ISO 14001 within the next 2 years.

The Job…

You will use your knowledge and skills to promote a positive health and safety culture in the workplace. You will be responsible for ensuring that management and all employees comply with safety legislation and that safety policies and practices are adopted and adhered to at all times.

As a health and safety co-ordinator, you will need to:

 Carry out risk assessments, consider how risks could be reduced and train managers and employees in how to reduce risks
 Outline safe operational procedures which identify and take into account all relevant hazards;
 Carry out regular site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented;
 Ensure working practices are safe and comply with legislation;
 Prepare health and safety strategies and develop internal policy;
 Lead in-house training with managers and employees about health and safety issues and risks;
 Keep records of inspection findings, produce reports on findings, suggest improvements and work with managers to implement those agreed;




 Record incidents and accidents and produce statistics for the monthly management report;
 Keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all Health and Safety Executive (HSE) legislation and any developments that affect the waste solutions industry.
 Be pro-active in the identification and resolution of problems.
 Seek and develop ongoing continuous improvements.


Key Skills

 Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English
 Ability to build relationships with all levels of employees
 Computer literate in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
 Persuading/Influencing skills
 Negotiation skills
 Patience and diplomacy
 Ability to deal with conflict
 Attention to detail
 Ability to use initiative
 Problem solving
 Flexibility / Adaptability
 Effective time management



Qualifications & Experience

 Knowledge and understanding of current Health and Safety Law.
 A relevant qualification in HSE such as a Degree, NEBOSH or IOSH qualification
 Full driving licence


This position is ideally suited to a fast learner with some recycling experience; someone who has the ability to work unsupervised, has a desire/willingness to progress into a management role and most importantly has a commitment to ongoing personal development.
