Kent Business School (Canterbury and Medway Campuses) is looking for dynamic educators keen to join an established but ambitious School in order to take its teaching and scholarship to the next level. The post holder will work closely with other colleagues in the School and make a substantial contribution to our teaching in the areas outlined below.
These posts are for Hourly Paid Lecturers who have the relevant professional, practice and academic qualifications, ideally with teaching experience, to assist the School in educating the next generation of business professionals.
Teaching responsibilities will include contributing to the development and delivery of undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) seminars and to take a full part in UG and PG assessment. Future opportunities may also be available to deliver lectures and on-line learning episodes
The areas of interest for those looking to join our team are:
Project Management: Expertise in project management at strategic, systems and operational levels, and an appreciation of the knowledge and skills required for successful project management in organisations. Understanding of 4D & 7S models of project management. Expertise in project life cycles and alternative development paths, project planning and control techniques, including CPM and PERT, learning and innovation in projects, resource planning, team management and motivation, evaluation and returns and stakeholder management.
Marketing
Expertise in marketing planning, strategy and research and the impact these have on organisations customers alike. Knowledge of the theories and practice which inform buyer behaviour and the associated areas of new product development, branding, pricing and marketing communications. An understanding of the digital marketing environment including customer relationship management and data mining and the effect this may have on an ever changing global market.
HR
Expertise in the how the theories and practice of human resource management (HRM) can impact and influence organisations, with the ability to link these theories to practice. An understanding of the processes and procedures required for effective leadership and management including the management and development of people within organisations. Knowledge of the impact of contextual forces on organisations including environmental, social and technological change issues, international developments and corporate governance.
International Business: Expertise of the external business environment with particular emphasis on international and geopolitical development across the globe. Knowledge of the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) approach and how business ethics, corporate social responsibility and technological change affect business modules in contrasting cultures. Understanding of how cultural frameworks can be applied to managerial problems including the emic versus etc approach to cross-cultural management.
Business Strategy: Expertise in both the underlying theory and subsequent practice of corporate and business strategy with particular emphasis on the impact of dissolving industry boundaries and interconnectivity between industries; rapid change, hyper-competition and transient advantage. An understanding of corporate governance, stakeholder management, corporate social responsibility and how to achieve a competitive advantage in an ever changing world.
Business Ethics; Sustainability; Creativity; Innovation: Expertise in ethics and ethical dilemmas, change management, values, governance and leadership including application of sustainable business models in a national and international business environment. Expertise in organisational creativity and organisation, in theory and in practice, with regard to models and processes of innovation, socio-technological change and entrepreneurship.
Business Law: Expertise in the English legal system, legal process and dispute resolution with relevant knowledge of the Law of Contract, Law of Negligence, Employment Law and the Law of Business Organisations as they affect the operation of business within the UK.
Financial and Management Accounting: Expertise in single and double-entry book keeping, financial reporting, financial statement analysis, stock valuation and liabilities and provisions. Expertise in financial planning, management and control including cost allocation, pricing, Cost Volume Profit relationships and Balance Scorecards.

Candidates will need to show evidence of the following qualifications, skills and experience:
• Good first degree in a relevant subject area and/or equivalent professional qualifications;
• Evidence of ability to teach modules effectively and at all relevant levels (UG and PG) in the area;
• Ability to play an effective role in the life and work of the School as a whole;
• Ability to work as part of a team.
Hourly Paid Lecturers must be available during the University terms. Please note these are different to school term dates.
Excellent interpersonal skills are essential, as the post holder will be dealing with both students and colleagues on a regular basis. A professional attitude to work, clients and colleagues is essential at all times. Other useful skills will include experience in the use of IT packages including using Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs).
