The School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research (SSPSSR) is seeking to appoint a sociologist and/or social policy analyst who can contribute to the School’s outstanding research performance and is committed to high-quality teaching.
We are particularly interested to appoint someone who can make a substantial contribution to our programme in Health & Social Care. The successful candidate may also be involved in delivering and developing the quantitative teaching SSPSSR delivers as part of the University’s prestigious Q-Step Centre.
Applicants should demonstrate a developing trajectory of publications and public engagement that illustrates their commitment to an internationally-recognised field of research, whilst also possessing the skills and experience to engage our diverse student body with effective undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
As a Lecturer / Senior Lecturer (depending on experience), you can expect to:
Offer distinctive, exciting and innovative programmes of study that combine academic excellence with an exceptional student experience and appropriate learning resources
Provide innovation and leadership in research-led teaching
Contribute to the research standing of the School through high quality academic papers and books of national and international standing
Extend, transform and apply research knowledge in teaching activities and appropriate external activities such as public engagement events
Participate in the broader academic and community life of the School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research
What we are looking for in the right candidate:
First degree or equivalent in a relevant subject area
A proven track record of undergraduate teaching and research in sociology, social policy or similar field
Evidence of high-quality research and a publishing record commensurate with career stage
Able to engage the interest and enthusiasm of students and inspire them to learn
Proven ability to balance the pressures of teaching, research, administrative demands and managing competing deadlines
SSPSSR has a strong research culture and in REF 2021 the School retained its very high research standing with the largest submission to the Social Policy and Social Work Pane (rated 3rd in the UK). We are home to world experts across the social sciences and strive to create a dynamic research culture.
