Personal Assistant

Job reference: 20220906HL1351201
Hours: 7 hours a week
Wage: £9.85 per hour
Location: Ashford
Duration: Permanent

Description:

“I am a 28 year old woman with learning disabilities, who really enjoys listening to music. I also like going shopping with my sister, bowling, and cooking. I enjoy getting out and about and keeping busy. I find it difficult being in crowds or meeting new people and I really need to stick to my routine as I find it very upsetting if things change. I have a great sense of humour. I live with my family who are really supportive.”

I am looking for a PA who can help me to learn to plan and shop for food, and help me learn to cook new recipes. I also need support with being aware of food hygiene and food safety, as I would like to become more independent in this area.

The PA will need to encourage me to develop my money skills as my goal would be to be able to shop independently.

The PA will also need to support me to be confident to find and take part in local social groups that I find interesting, where I can make friends, to stop me feeling isolated, and also to take part in meaningful daily activities. I would also like support to learn how to keep myself safe when I am chatting to people online.

I find other relationships difficult, and I would like a PA who can assist me to learn healthy coping skills so I can manage disagreements in a more healthy way, and to support me to manage my anxiety and my more challenging behaviours.

The PA would need to support me to feel confident to fully participate in doctor’s appointments and other meetings, so I can talk about what is important to me and what my needs are. I would also need support with finding suitable paid work.

Applicants must be able to be firm with me and to be able to set and keep boundaries. They must be patient, helpful and caring, with a good sense of humour. The PA must be confident to work on their own initiative. They must be comfortable recording their activities with me on pro-formas. This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure, the cost of which is covered by the employer.

Post subject to disclosure and barring service (DBS) check.
