The Executive Assistant (Diary and Events) to the Bishop of Dover is a senior post directly responsible for managing all elements of the diary, visits and events concerning the Bishop of Dover.

As Executive Assistant (Diary and Events), you will work closely with the Bishop, the Bishop’s Chaplain, the Executive Assistant (Operations & Finance) and the Bishop’s Office Administrator, ensuring that her commitments are well managed and organised in a way that enables The Bishop to undertake her roles and wider ministry in the most sustainable way.

Reporting directly to the Bishop of Dover, Bishop Rose Hudson-Wilkin, this is a fantastic opportunity to support her in her work, as the only bishop working day-to-day in the Diocese. Bishop Rose has an elevated profile nationally and internationally due to a high level of interest in England’s first female black bishop.

You will plan, organise and coordinate all elements of the day-to-day diary management for the Bishop, acting as the first point of contact for all diary requests for media and press appointments and make any travel and accommodation arrangements as necessary. You will also ensure that the Bishop has all necessary paperwork or information in advance of meetings or engagements.

In addition, you will work closely with the senior staff at Lambeth Palace in relation to prioritising the commitments of the Archbishop of Canterbury when in the Diocese.

Educated to a good standard, you should have significant demonstrable experience as an administrator or Executive Assistant with proven experience of providing high-level diary management to senior staff.

With demonstrable interpersonal and organisational abilities, you will quickly establish and maintain excellent working relationships with a wide range of people and be able to develop structured, organised and highly efficient approaches to the work of the office of a senior leader.

The ability to build excellent working relationships with all those with whom the Bishop comes into contact by responding to a wide range of enquiries in a warm and friendly manner is essential.

It is also essential for you to be sympathetic to the mission and ethos of the Christian Church, the Church of England, the Diocese of Canterbury and the vision and values of Canterbury Cathedral. Canterbury Diocese is the oldest diocese in England, stretching from Maidstone to Thanet, the Isle of Sheppey to the Romney Marsh. We have 350 miles of coastline with historic ports and seaside resorts, alongside rural communities, market towns and commuter-belt urban developments. Affluent areas often sit alongside pockets of major deprivation, offering an exciting and challenging mission context.

At the heart of all we do is a vision of transformation for ourselves and our communities: no one can encounter God and remain unchanged. In the Diocese of Canterbury, we want to increasingly become a Christian community transformed through encounter with Christ, growing and overflowing to transform and bless the families, homes and communities we serve: Changed Lives, Changing Lives.
