Graduate Trainee Catastrophe Risk Analyst

Job Description

Main Purpose:

A chance to join a leading Catastrophe Management function at one of Lloyd's largest syndicates, delivering cutting edge analytics to stakeholders across the business. As an analyst you will enjoy a close working relationship with underwriting teams and have a real ability to meaningfully influence the risk selection process

The successful candidate will be using cutting edge proprietary tools, providing technical support and exposure management for the open market property team. They will look to utilise and enhance current processes to deliver insightful analytics in a role that offers exciting challenges and opportunities to provide novel solutions.

Main Responsibilities:

* Use RMS and various other tools to identify catastrophe exposure on an account and portfolio basis
* Developing new tools to streamline the catastrophe modelling process and building out smarter analytics
* Contribute to the creation of internal and external reports
* Communicate risk metrics to key stakeholders
* Develop an understanding of catastrophe modelling methodologies and natural hazards

Skills and Experience:

* Degree in an analytical discipline (Maths, Science, Engineering or Economics)
* Highly numerate and logical - strong mathematical/statistical knowledge is advantageous
* Good business communication skills - ability to influence, negotiate, and listen
* Ability to manipulate large data sets with strong Excel skills.
* Experience using Microsoft Power BI for analytics
* Familiarity with MS SQL query language and/or other coding languages such as R and Python.

* Quick to learn and able to turn their hand to a range of tasks
* Outside the box problem solving with a passion for completing tasks
* Strong communication skills with ability to explain complex ideas to a variety of audiences
* Self-starter with a willingness to go beyond and push themselves
* A keen attention to detail while able to work to tight deadlines
