Do you have experience of leading and managing an effective press office; generating powerful media coverage in line with communications strategy? If you have experience of crisis communications and a demonstrable aptitude in social media, this new and exciting opportunity to join our busy Communications Department could be an ideal career move for you in 2021!
You will have significant experience of successfully leading a strong team, thinking strategically and delivering successful and impactful communications strategies and campaigns. You will use your experience of digital, paid media, PR, events and strategic partnerships, to shape activity with external agencies, media owners and brand partners.
As Head of Communications, you will:
promote the University’s mission and values and feel comfortable dealing with both internal and external stakeholders – acting as ‘the voice’ of the University
assist the Director of Engagement in the development of strategy to enable the University to achieve its operational objectives and support the Institutional Plan
find and develop external relationships that will help to publicise the University and its mission
lead, motivate and develop relevant staff, providing clear objectives and managing performance against these, to ensure that staff are appropriately motivated and trained
To succeed in this role you will have:
a degree in a relevant field (communications, marketing, public relations) or equivalent qualification or experience
membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. CIPR,CIM)
a successful track record in implementing and executing successful communications strategies
experience managing budgets and planning sustainably for the future
The newly created Engagement Directorate aims to shape and drive forward our renewed commitment to Engagement & Civic Mission. They will enhance the University’s reputation regionally, nationally and internationally which will include communicating a compelling and ambitious vision for the University. The Directorate will deliver an ambitious engagement strategy that positions Kent as a leading civic university.
Included within the Directorate is Communication; International Partnerships; Major Campaigns; Development (Alumni Relations) and Engagement.
