The Canterbury Academy

We are looking to recruit Teaching Assistants to support our students in classroom learning in our secondary phase at The Canterbury High School.

We are seeking enthusiastic, caring, reliable and flexible members of staff to support students both within class promoting independent learning, and in small groups delivering interventions outside the classroom with children with additional educational needs.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate evidence of good literacy and numeracy skills to enable them to communicate effectively with staff and students and provide effective and sensitive support.

Experience of working with children and young people in a school or learning environment is preferred and applicants must be familiar with child development and be able to respond to the needs of individual students.


Candidates most suited to the post will have:

Positive, friendly and enthusiastic personality
Patience, care and respect for our young learners
Experience working with secondary aged children
Knowledge of safeguarding issues
Interest, experience or professional development in SEN/ ASD education
A determination to help provide the very best inclusive education
The ability to work as part of a dedicated and hardworking team with staff and parents
Good written and communication skills of at least GCSE standard
To hold a recognised teaching or teaching assistant qualification would be an advantage

This will be a permanent position at 30 hours per week, term time (39 weeks per year). The hours of work will be 0830 to 1500 Monday to Friday. Salary will be pro-rata.
