Senior Buyer - Permanent - Medway - Competitive Salary

Your new role
Your new role will report into the Procurement Manager with the responsibility of sourcing and purchasing direct materials for the Electronic Systems function. This is a very varied and interesting role incorporating complex stakeholder engagement and a really good opportunity for someone to move into a strategic procurement role. Receiving requisitions and demands, negotiating with suppliers and processing purchase orders, purchase order amendments and/or purchase agreements in accordance with procurement processes and procedures, and the requirements of the business. Negotiating terms and conditions, price agreements and other contractual documents with suppliers, and resolve most areas of conflict. Maintaining strong, effective relationships with suppliers that are capable of withstanding setbacks and be able to resolve relationship and performance issues. Understanding budget requirements for the purchase orders you are responsible for, and to support achievement of these requirements, as well as identify opportunities for cost reduction/avoidance through effective negotiation with the supplier. Understanding key performance indicators for the suppliers that you are responsible for and be able to engage with and address issues at a senior level within the supplier organisation. Maintaining supplier open order books and ensure that correct and current data is maintained in the Oracle ERP system. Training/coaching junior members of staff on procurement processes and procedures and support audits of these, including supporting the implementation of improvement plans. Supporting other members of the procurement team as required in their daily responsibilities.

What you'll need to succeed
In order to succeed, you will need to have proven experience within a procurement function and be able to demonstrate key deliverables through strategic sourcing. Ideally, your experience will incorporate either manufacturing or engineering industry experience although this is not essential. You will need to have a high level of computer literacy to perform in this role and either MCIPS/Degree level qualification would be desirable. To perform well in this role, you will need to possess good knowledge of strategic and operational procurement processes with well-developed communication, negotiation, analytical and interpersonal skills. The role requires you to be able to use these skills to influence colleagues, suppliers and customers. You should have a methodical and innovative mindset, striving to meet the needs of the business and continuous improvement.
