Procurement Team Leader - Permanent - Medway - £45,000 - £52,000

Your new company is multinational defence, security, and aerospace company based in Medway, it is the largest defence contractor in Europe and among the world's largest defence companies. Due to growth they're looking to recruit Procurement Team Leaders to join their Kent based site and are looking to offer proactive procurement professionals the opportunity to join a company that offers continuous study support and career development.

Your new role
Your new role, you'll be reporting to the Procurement Manager you will create and drive the overall procurement and sub-contract strategy for various product lines. In this role you will be responsible for the management of a team of 3 to 5 and will work on global procurement strategy.

* To ensure the programs achieve their Design to Unit Production Cost targets through design enhancements in the supply chain.
* To report to the Business Area leadership team on progress of the supply chain and the procurement team in achieving the program(s) objectives.
* To liaise at a senior level with suppliers, sub-contractors and partners and influence relationships to achieve or exceed business goals.
* To work closely with engineering and the business area leads to ensure the future technology requirements of the supply chain are understood and drive sourcing strategies to identify supplier capability to meet those needs ahead of program requirements.
* To work with other BAE Systems sites, both in the US and the UK, to ensure procurement strategies are aligned and that the leverage of the corporation is utilised in driving down cost and influencing suppliers and sub-contractors
* To work with their team members on Personal Development Plans that ensure the potential of the employees is fully realised through coaching, training and development.


What you'll need to succeed
In order to succeed, you will need to be a natural leader that is able to motivate a multi-functional team by means of excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will have an abundance of self-motivation and dynamism to influence senior stakeholder both internally and externally. You will have the ability to understand stakeholder needs and deliver a positive benefit in order to provide influence and direction for the team. The following skills and qualifications are necessary to this role:

* HNC/HND in Business Studies or equivalent
* Qualified MCIPS/Degree level qualification or study towards MCIPS - study support provided
* Experience within a Procurement or similar Commercial function.
* Good understanding of global and competitive influences on the industry
* Excellent understanding of procurement and operations management best practise techniques, including lean techniques, supply chain management techniques (pull, max min, discrete), global influences etc.
* Good knowledge of global sub-contractor capabilities, competitive market space and PESTLE influences
* Ability to assess and analyse price and commercial proposal data to make good source selection recommendations.
* Ability to analyse and negotiate proposals including technical specs, statement of works and agreement terms.
