Based in the stunning setting of the Precincts of Canterbury Cathedral and St Augustine’s Abbey – a World Heritage Site – The King’s School is one of the oldest and most prestigious Schools in the country with an enviable record of academic excellence and achievement.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced building professional to join the team during an exciting period of extensive building development.

The successful candidate is likely to be already working as a building professional at senior management level. Experience of working in a school environment will be advantageous but not essential. A professional surveying or construction degree or qualification is essential, such as MRICS, MCIOB or MBIFM.

Reporting directly to the Deputy Bursar (Finance and Logistics), The Premises Director will be responsible for a wide portfolio of departments across both Senior and Junior Schools totalling approximately 30 people. This includes:

1. The Premises Department

2. Transport

3. Health and Safety

4. School Insurances

For a full description of responsibilities, please see the accompanying job description. These include but are not limited to:

Regular surveying and inspection of all School buildings, plant, equipment and furniture with particular attention to maintenance and health and safety requirements.
The control of all Estates Budgets: Major and Minor refurbishment works expenditure, Maintenance, Transport including staff wages and salaries.
Applying for all applicable grants for training and restoration and other works.
Checking the quality of workmanship, productivity and efficiency of Premises Department staff, ensuring high standards are maintained.
The completion of specific projects, such as; the creation and implementation of a comprehensive planned maintenance programme covering all School buildings.
