Temporary Operational Support Grade (OSG)

East Sutton Park Prison, Sutton Valence, Maidstone Kent: Long-term Temporary Contracts.
£10.93 per hour inclusive of Holiday Pay.


Overview of the Kent positions

As the sole agency supplier to the HM Prison Service for the provision of maintenance trades & support operatives, Hays is seeking to recruit Operational Support Grades (OSGs) for Maidstone Prison in Maidstone Town Centre, Kent. Immediate starts, if you are already Prison Cleared.

The roles are based on a Shift pattern on average 39 hours per week, including early, late, main and weekend shifts (higher rates of pay for shift work) for Gate Staff/ OSG.


Purpose of the OSG role

As part of the security team you will be responsible for assisting in the safety and security of the establishment where your duties will include escorting visitors, building contractors, gate duties within the prison and outside areas. You will ensure the safety and security of the visitors, staff and prisoners within a Prison establishment, while persons from outside of NOMS are on site. You will also ensure that no unauthorised persons or items enter the establishment. Kent Prisons have an excellent reputation as busy local prisons, which serve all the courts in the South East. Gate Staff OSG



* Situated in Main Gate Reception & Communications Room
* Emergency Control Room & Switchboard duties
* Shift Pattern consisting of earlys, lates, mains, weekends,
* CCTV operation and Radio Handling
* Routine administrative work - Booking in Visitors & Staff
* Checking & Searching Staff, Visitors & contractors
* Supervised when Issuing Keys to Staff
* Supervision of visitors & contractors on site
* Searching Buildings & Patrolling perimeter and grounds
* Searching prisoners property, Canteen and kit exchange duties
* Night patrol duties
* Health & Safety Procedures


Experience

No formal qualifications or previous experience is required for this role.
The nature of the OSG role requires candidates to be security conscious and able to challenge potential compromises and risks, you will also need to be reliable and consistent, level headed and have exceptional interpersonal skills. Successful applicants will have a background in customer services or security, and will be assessed based on the following competencies: Acting with integrity, respecting others, Building relationships and team working, communicating effectively, developing self and others.
Full training is provided by the establishment/ department. Training time will be paid at the standard hourly rate.


Security Clearance required

Immediate start if you are already Prison Cleared.
All applicants will be subject to the HM Prison Service Security Clearance procedure which can take up to 2 weeks, this can include a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check. You must hold a Valid Passport or Birth Certificate & Photo Driving Licence in your current address. All applicants must be able to provide details of 2 satisfactory references, at least one from an ex-employer.
