Thanet District Council serves the beautiful coastal towns and villages in East Kent; including Broadstairs, Margate, Ramsgate and Minster, providing an array of services to over 127,000 residents.

Thanet is a great place to live and work. Our historic seaside towns of Ramsgate, Margate and Broadstairs are rich in heritage and opportunity.

With the multi-million pound Turner Contemporary Gallery, the fast speed rail link to London, and the popular Westwood Cross shopping centre - this is an exciting time to join Thanet District Council. We are determined to improve the quality of life for local people. We believe that by listening to local people, working in active partnership and by being prepared to do things in an innovative way we can accelerate improvement and best meet the challenges ahead.

All posts include generous annual leave, flexible working (some posts excluded), a 37 hour week, as well as access to the local government pension scheme.

The Executive Support Unit is seeking to recruit a highly organised and flexible Personal Assistant to provide on a non-party political basis, a comprehensive, co-ordinated and efficient support service to the Leader, Deputy Leader and Chairman of the Council.

The post requires an excellent knowledge of office practices and procedures and a good general understanding of the role of local government with an awareness of the role of the local government ombudsman and data protection act.

The successful applicant will need to be able to meet deadlines with the ability to plan, prioritise and organise a varied workload amid conflicting demands, with the ability to filter information and assess priorities working within a very busy office environment. Excellent IT skills including experience of google docs, slides, and sheets or equivalent and e-mail and calendar packages, including good diary management skills are essential. The postholder will be required to work both independently and as part of a team.

Experience of providing administrative and secretarial support at Chief Executive, Director or senior executive level is required and previous experience of working with elected members would be beneficial. The postholder should also have experience in dealing with complaints both on the telephone and in writing.
