An opportunity has arisen for a Chemistry Analyst to join our busy Laboratory Team within the Water Quality department. You will be based at our Farnborough Laboratory and will report to the Senior Chemistry Analyst.
The key purpose of this role is to prepare and perform routine and non-routine trace analysis using state of the art analytical instrumentation. The role will also involve data interpretation, maintenance, organising workloads and assisting in the implementation of new methodologies.
The successful candidate will also be responsible for the maintenance of records in compliance with the Management System and assist in other analytical tasks within the Chemistry department providing an analytical service to South East Water and commercial customers.
Main responsibilities will include:
* Performing analysis and operating instrumentation in accordance with the Management System.
* Assist in the maintenance and troubleshooting of Chromatographic, Colorimetric and preparatory equipment.
* Analyse and interpret data, calculate results and complete all laboratory paperwork.
* Document information by maintaining daily logs and equipment record books.
* Ensure data is accurately entered into the Laboratory Information Management System within set timeframes.
* Ensure that the sample stability and turnaround for the given analysis is met.
* Communicate with senior members of staff on any quality/technical issue.
* Preparation of standards, reagents and AQC's in accordance with company internal procedures.
* Maintain good laboratory practice and housekeeping at all times.
* Assist in method validation when required.
* To participate in the auditing of internal practices to ensure compliance to the management system.
* Work towards being a competent person according to Regulation 16(2)(d)(i) of the Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 2000 and to actively pursue Continued Professional Development.
In order to fulfil this role, the successful candidate should:-
Have existing knowledge of good laboratory practice gained either via previous practical laboratory experience (at least 6 months) or via a strong academic background, although training in the use of specialised equipment will be delivered by SEW.
Ideally analysts should have a minimum academic qualification in an appropriate scientific subject such as NVQ level 3 or equivalent, which will, as a minimum, permit them to seek and eventually obtain full membership of the relevant professional body.
Hold excellent numeracy, literacy, computer literacy and analytical skills - these are an essential requirement
A good working knowledge of the Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 2000 and ISO17025:2005 is desirable.
