FAMILY SUPPORT OFFICER (KENT)
£34,543 per annum
WOULD YOU LIKE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO FAMILIES WHO HAVE RECEIVED A DIAGNOSIS OF AUTISM FOR THEIR CHILD?
We are now looking for a Family Support Officer to deliver support to families who have children with ASD in order to help them access services appropriate to their needs.
You\'ll be supporting parents and carers who have received a diagnosis of autism for their child or who are waiting for assessment/diagnosis. Most of the support that we offer is through email and telephone contact, face to face appointments, parent training sessions and support groups. Families are welcome to come back to the service at any time after their initial contact.
You will provide practical and sensitive support to help families navigate the services and support that is available to them, as well as information, ideas and strategies that will help a family understand their child\'s diagnosis and support their needs. We also support families with Education and Benefit tribunals.
The position is offered at 37.5 hours per week, which includes occasional evenings.
We need you to be resilient, supportive and sensitive towards the needs of autistic people and their families.
YOUR EXPERIENCE MUST INCLUDE:
o knowledge of the systems and services available to children with ASD and their families in Kent. In particular the special education system.
o working with autistic children and/or young people
o supporting parents and carers in an advisory capacity.
o You will need to hold an appropriate professional qualification, e.g. CQSW/CSS/DipSW/RNMH, NVQ4, teaching qualification.
o have use of a car and current driving licence, as the role involves travelling throughout Kent.
o You will need to be proficient in understanding complex paperwork and producing written documents.
PERSONAL QUALITIES REQUIRED ARE:
o ability to build positive relationships
o ability to work on own initiative and make own decisions
o commitment to own continuous professional development and ability to learn new skills
o an appreciation of the importance of need for confidentiality
o good problem solving ability
o ability express their views
o ability to encourage and motivate others.
