The Hundred of Hoo Academy

Role: Science Assistant
Hours: 37 hours per week (usual hours 8:00am-4:00pm Mon-Thurs, 8:00am-3:30pm Fri)
Weeks: 38 weeks per year
Scale: D1 points 7-16 (£15,115-£17,419) pro rata to £12,382-£14,508 for the term time only role

The Williamson Trust is a multi-academy trust based in Medway. Our family of schools include one secondary grammar, one 4 – 19 academy and four primary schools. The vision for the Trust is summed up in our strapline aspire, achieve, excel – all our members of our family of schools set sights high, achieve to the best of their ability and excel in all they do. Through a relentless focus on the quality of teaching, pupil progress and leadership, all children in Trust schools are enabled to enjoy their learning, to develop 21st century skills for life and work to achieve beyond their expectations.

Our values and ethos are firmly rooted in traditional values with an uncompromising culture of no excuses, and we insist on high standards for staff and pupils. We mean this, we follow it and we refer to it every day because we believe in it. Every pupil matters, every pupil can achieve, every lesson counts. We make no excuses and we expect none from pupils or staff.
We offer staff a unique opportunity to experience other contexts and phases and to network with colleagues in other Trust schools. We will support you to be the best you can be. Great schools are built on a solid foundation of committed staff who believe there is no ceiling to pupil’s achievement. We know our staff within our schools work hard and aim to recognise this wherever possible. For all staff we take professional development seriously and have created career pathways to help you map out your career aspirations. Additionally, we provide an array of professional development programmes for our staff including NQT, middle and senior leader programmes supported by the MTSA. In October, we offer pupils and staff a two-week half term.

We are seeking a Science Assistant to provide a general support service to our Science Department. You will be working alongside our Science Technicians to provide a smooth running of the Academy’s activities. The role will include duties such as setting up and clearing away equipment, assisting technicians in setting up experiments and replenishing glass wear in the laboratory.
In September 2011, The Hundred of Hoo converted to Academy status and became a member of the Williamson Trust. Just one year later Ofsted judged the Academy as “good with outstanding features” recognising the relentless focus and ambition that we have.
In September 2015 the Academy welcomed its first Reception class thereby extending its age range to 4-year-old children. This exciting provision demonstrates the Academy’s sense of ambition to serve the community where pupils’ academic journey represents a cradle to university principle.

The academy combines the traditional values of strong discipline, smart uniform and good manners with the best of modern teaching. We have strong systems and routines which can be described as formal. However, it is this structure that liberates our teachers to practice their art and which allows pupils to learn in a calm environment.

We welcome informal visits to the Academy to help you make your decision as to whether or not our vision and values match your beliefs and you could fulfil your career ambitions with us. If you wish to discuss any aspect of this vacancy or arrange a visit to the Academy please contact Mrs Hoad, HR Assistant 01634 251443 or email hr@wtrust.co.uk

The Trust is committed to the safeguarding of all children and young people. The offer of appointment will be subject to enhanced level DBS clearance, receipt of two acceptable references and satisfactory completion of other vetting procedures. Applicants who have been resident outside of the UK within the last five years, if offered a position, in addition to a DBS, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident. Additional employment and referencing will also be undertaken.

Please note that The Williamson Trust reserve the right to close the advert before the advertised closing date should a sufficient response have been received. Therefore, please complete your application as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
