Position Expectations
Working within the IT department the purpose of this role is to assist the Head of IT in managing the team and in delivery of the department’s objectives.
The role will focus on the following key areas:
• Managing the continuous life cycle of the organisations IT applications (both inhouse and off the shelf).
• Work closely with the Business Change team in providing technical input to the continued evolution of the Organisations Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
• Managing the technical delivery of development and support of the ERP system and Business Intelligence (BI) and reporting.
• Day to day management of the Department’s IT Development team.
The IT Applications will carry out their line management responsibilities by, among other actions:
• Setting measurable objectives for their team members on an annual basis.
• Managing the team resources effectively, assessing team and individual performance and addressing capability and underperformance issues.
• Auditing functions under their responsibility to ensure agreed service standards and performance levels [KPIs] are achieved and maintained.
• Ensuring team and individual compliance with corporate processes and procedures, including administration, safety and security.
• Management of risk and acting as ‘risk leader’ for the team.

Key Duties
• To execute effectively the line management responsibility for the IT Development team and to be
accountable for the delivery of that team’s objectives.
• To assist the Head of IT in developing the technology strategy for the organisation.
• To lead on specific areas of technology, process or policy.
• To monitor the performance of the IT Development team in delivering fault troubleshooting and resolution of assigned incidents within a timely manner, ensuring that incidents are correctly updated in the current IT service management tool. This includes participating in fault troubleshooting and resolution as necessary.
• To monitor the performance of the team in delivering planned work e.g. development and customisations of the ERP system.
• To effectively project manage all aspects of assigned technology projects, providing design authority expertise to ensure that solutions are fit for purpose and delivered to an agreed standard.
• To monitor the performance of the team in delivering assigned technology projects and to provide guidance as necessary to ensure all aspects of the project are managed effectively.
• To attend the change advisory board and other IT management forums.
• To investigate and recommend changes to the IT policies and processes in order to maximise their effectiveness.
• To create and maintain IT system and policy documentation.
• To create competency frameworks and training programmes for the team.
• To use your technical experience and knowledge to make suggestions for any projects that would enhance or ensure the continued delivery of the IT services and to submit the appropriate project proposals.
• Liaising and working with third party companies to ensure that work is delivered or faults are rectified in a timely manner.
Skills and Experience
• Experience in a people management role.
• A wide variety of IT experience across application support, development, business
analysis, process and reporting.
• Must be able to demonstrate a technical understanding of:
o Application Support
o Database Administration
o Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems
o Business Intelligence (BI) and Reporting
o Software development and Agile development methodology
• Experience of IT change management
• Must be able to demonstrate a good awareness of customer service
