Position Expectations
Under guidance of a Team Leader deliver engineering projects from inception to completion. This will include a
combination of undertaking engineering designs, managing consultants and contractors and supervising construction works, essentially managing the whole project lifecycle.
To provide technical expertise across a broad range of the organisations assets and systems within the Mechanical Services discipline. The post holder will be expected to foster good working relationships with staff and colleagues within the Engineering department and external contractors. Financial awareness, planning and budgetary control are key elements of this role.
Key Duties
• To deliver projects from inception to completion
• To prepare designs, contract documents, specifications, drawings, risk and environmental assessments for the
• execution project associated works, which are to be carried out by contract.
• To act, when required, as Project Manager of Supervisor in accordance with the NEC3 Conditions of Contract.
• To assess Contractors, Consultants and Suppliers against safety and quality competency criteria and make recommendations for appointment.
• To furnish reports, regularly for financial and progress reports on contract works.
• Responsibility for the design and review of mechanical systems and services including but not limited to:
hydraulic systems, main water distribution network, cranes (gantry and mobile), winch drives.
• To design and prepare specifications and drawings for maintenance work and items of new work.
• Carrying out tests on systems and advising on changes to plans where necessary.
• To monitor the installation of mechanical equipment and help gather all info needed for future maintenance
• To provide estimates and feasibility studies for proposed new schemes and alterations to existing services
• Making sure that all mechanical services meet health and safety requirements and environmental legislation.
• Giving presentations and writing reports to promote communications with stakeholders.
• Promoting energy efficiency and other sustainability initiatives.
Skills and Experience
• Graduate Mechanical Engineering
• Minimum of 4 - 6 years post graduate experience.
• Experience of mechanical services installations in an industrial environment.
• Site supervision of mechanical services works.
• Preparation of technical specifications for procurement purposes.
• Health and safety management for mechanical services works.
• Preparation of technical reports.
• Good understanding of the principles of project management and the design of mechanical services
• Good understanding of the CDM Regulations.
• Good understanding of Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
