We require an enthusiastic, friendly and reliable Catering Assistant to join our successful and expanding Academy.
Required for a September start
This will be a term time only appointment (plus up to 3 cleaning days). Salary is paid monthly on an annualised basis.
Successful candidates will work a 30 hour week. The working pattern to be confirmed at interview.
Duties may include:
Preparation of food and ingredients
Unloading deliveries from suppliers
Organising the storeroom and refrigerated areas
Washing kitchen appliances, work surfaces, floors and walls
Serving food to customers
Clearing away and washing up
Helping on school events and conferences
Working on our till
Refilling vending machines
And other duties as requested
Previous experience working in a kitchen environment or in hospitality or catering would be an advantage.
The Catering Department
Successful applicants will be expected to work anywhere in the Academy.
The catering facilities include :
• Canterbury High School kitchen
• Canterbury Primary School kitchen
• Adult Education Café
• Chef’s Academy Restaurant
• UCAF- Our staff and sixth form cafe
The ideal candidate will:
Be experienced in working in a busy kitchen environment
Be passionate about helping to produce fresh food to a high standard
Be a good communicator
Be experienced at and enjoy working as part of a team
Enjoy working with young people (students are training in our kitchens)
Comply with health and safety and hygiene standards.
Main responsibilities
• To assist with all day to day aspects of preparation and presentation of the food service.
• To provide an efficient and friendly service to customers in all areas of the catering department.
• To ensure that food is presented and served in a clean, hygienic environment.
• Ensure all necessary documentation is completed to comply and industry standards
• To communicate well with customers and demonstrates a helpful attitude at all times.
• To undertake cleaning, ensuring all aspects of equipment and production area cleaning is completed- walls, floors, fixtures, fittings, pots, pans, cutlery, crockery, glassware,to the company’s standard according to the cleaning rota or as directed.
• To attend/receive any job-related training as required
• Report all accidents and near misses in accordance to the Health & Safety documentation
• Wear the correct uniform at all times.
• Comply with all company & client policies, site rules and statutory regulations relating to health& safety working practices, hygiene, cleanliness, fire and COSHH. This will include your awareness of any specific hazards in the workplace.
• Ensure that all equipment is in working order and report any faults to line manager, ensuring the equipment is not used until safe.
• To fulfil any other reasonable requests.
• To assist at any special functions some of which may occur outside working hours but on a prior notice agreement.
• To attend any meetings and training courses which may be necessary.
