We are seeking a full time (37 hours a week) Chef to join our Catering Department.
A term time or term time plus an additional 10 days appointment may be possible.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Academy catering department, which currently consists of 3 chefs and a team of catering assistants. The role will involve working or leading in any of the Academy catering facilities.
The catering facilities consist of:
• Canterbury High School kitchen
• Canterbury Primary School kitchen
• Adult Education Café
• Chef’s Academy Restaurant
• The UCAF-Our staff and sixth form café
The ideal candidate will:
Be experienced in working in a busy kitchen environment
Be passionate about producing fresh food to a high standard
Be a good communicator
Be experienced at leading or working as part of a team
Enjoy working with young people (we have students in our training kitchens)
Comply with health and safety and hygiene standards.
Main responsibilities
• To assist with all day to day aspects of preparation and presentation of the food service.
• Prepare food to the highest standard of quality at all times.
• Follow recipes and instructions, as directed by line manager and in accordance to the required food offer.
• To provide an efficient and friendly service to customers in all areas of the catering department.
• To ensure that food is presented and served in a clean, hygienic environment.
• Ensure all necessary documentation is completed to comply and industry standards
• To communicate well with customers and demonstrates a helpful attitude at all times.
• To undertake cleaning, ensuring all aspects of equipment and production area cleaning is completed- walls, floors, fixtures, fittings, pots, pans, cutlery, crockery, glassware, to the company’s standard according to the cleaning rota or as directed.
• To attend/receive any job-related training as required
• Report all accidents and near misses in accordance to the Health & Safety documentation
• Wear the correct uniform at all times.
• Manage the quality and hygiene of the food cycle from delivery through to service, checking deliveries and taking and recording all temperatures, as required.
• Actively enforce relevant statutory, company and site H&S compliance together with the monitoring of related equipment.
• Comply with all company & client policies, site rules and statutory regulations relating to health& safety working practices, hygiene, cleanliness, fire and COSHH. This will include your awareness of any specific hazards in the workplace.
• Ensure that all equipment is in working order and report any faults to line manager, ensuring the equipment is not used until safe.
• To fulfill any other reasonable requests.
• To assist/manage any special functions some of which may occur outside working hours but on a prior notice agreement.
• To attend any meetings and training courses which may be necessary.
