Post: Youth Cafe Manager/Youth Worker - 25 hours per week

HOUSE in the Basement Youth Café is located in central Sevenoaks.

Key Aim: To promote and provide a safe social environment for young people to spend time and have the opportunity to develop via non formal education (e.g. help with C.V. writing) and social interaction.

Responsibilities and Objectives

1 To interact and communicate with young people to safeguard and ensure good standards of support, provision and behaviour.

2 To ensure via a rota two person cover for all opening of the
Youth Café, one person to be a paid DBS checked employee.

3 Be responsible for the safe keeping of staff, volunteer and young people whilst on the premises.

4 To conduct yourself with service users and the public in a polite, professional and approachable manner at all times.

5 Be proactive in the planning, development, delivery, promotion and evaluation of activities, events and initiatives provided by the Youth Café.

6 Approach and effectively deal with people displaying anti-social behaviour, in accordance with designated procedures.

7 To respond to reported incidents and complaints and attend to emergency calls and major incidents according to designated procedures as required.

8 To provide accurate and timely advice, information and assistance as a
representative of the Town Council, as required, including monthly reports and
data for monitoring reports.

9 To build up good working relationships and communication with the Youth
Cafe staffing team, volunteers, young people and partner organisations

10 Make suggestions and contributions as part of a team to the improvement and
development of the facility in order to deliver a sustainable Youth Café.

11 To manage the general running and operation of the Youth Café, this will include planning, delivery, co-operation, customer service, cash handling, cashing-up, stock and security and housekeeping and to take primary responsibility for standards of refreshment provision, including: kitchen hygiene standards, food preparation, stock ordering and stocktaking, cashing up with support from other staff as available and necessary. Working where appropriate with the Town Council’s Catering Manager.

12 Be aware of and adhere to the Town Council’s policies and procedures in
reference to working with young people.

13 Be aware of and ensure that work practice complies with Town Council policies
and procedures relating to Equal Opportunities and Health and Safety at all
times.

14 Line manage Youth Café staff

15 Encourage and develop a volunteering team (over 16).

16 To develop and manage a young person’s volunteering programme


17 To undertake such training and duties as should reasonably be directed by the
Chief Executive / Town Clerk.

18 Acting as a priority key holder for the Youth Café.

19 This post requires an Enhanced DBSCheck and compliance with GDPR



Outline Terms and Conditions
• 25 hours per week as per opening time of venue (see below)
• 21 days annual leave
• £20,000 - £22,000 p.a. (pro rata), dependent on experience
• Recognised youth worker experience required, with qualification desirable.
