Our busy Research Services team are seeking to appoint a full time Research Development Officer to support academics in the Faculty of Sciences in order to identify funding opportunities and develop research grant proposals to increase the amount of external research funding awarded to the Faculty.
As Research Development Officer (Sciences) you will:
◾Work closely with the Faculty Dean and Associate Dean (Research) to provide strategic support to the Faculty in order to increase the number, value and quality of research grant applications from Schools in the Faculty
◾Provide information on funding opportunities and best practice
◾Provide hands-on support for proposal development
To be successful in this role you will have:
◾Honours degree or significant equivalent professional experience
◾An understanding of and empathy with the research environment of a university and the significance of research for the University, the School, the researcher, students and the community
◾Proven experience of administration and management
Research Services supports academics and researchers at the University in preparing, submitting and managing research grants. It is also responsible for a range of related issues, including the preparation and submission of our REF return, oversight of research ethics and governance, impact, public engagement, researcher development and, together with the Office for Scholarly Communication, Open Access.
There are 27 of us, both full and part time, and we are organised into four teams, with an additional officer who is responsible for ethics and governance issues across our work.
The teams are:
•The Research Development Team - training, facilitating collaborations, developing knowledge and expertise
•The Contracts Team - costing, approval, grant submission, contract negotiation
•The Research Accounts Team - post-award accounts, claims, auditing, reporting
•The Research Excellence Team - REF, public engagement and impact, systems
