Materials/Environmental Scientist – KTP Associate
Location: Gallagher Aggregates, Hermitage Quarry, Maidstone, Kent ME16 9NT
Fixed term contract for 2 years
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a recent graduate with a first degree or higher degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering or Environmental Science or in a relevant subject to join us in the development of manufactured aggregates as an alternative to natural minerals, by using a combination of quarry and industrial wastes. The associate will also establish potential new markets for the manufactured aggregate.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Undertake extensive literature review of previous research and conduct market review.
• Develop laboratory procedures to assess various characteristics of manufactured aggregate.
• Conduct environmental monitoring and testing of manufactured aggregates for the compliance purposes.
• Assist in the development of pilot plant for upscaling the manufacturing facility.
• Lead, facilitate and manage the project including liaising with concerned regulatory authorities and stakeholders. Planning, implementation and production/maintenance of project documentation.
• Support the development of industry compliant products, promote marketing and engage with new and existing clients in the UK and identify other markets.
• Developing capability for new range of product and innovation to allow the company to lead the manufactured aggregate market.
• Continuous development and testing of new range of products.
• Undertake assessment and evaluation of potential new markets for the product.
• Disseminate the findings of the project both within the company and externally via research publications. Prepare project documentations, and present the results of the project to key stakeholders.
• Facilitate the embedding of knowledge gained from the project within the company and the University through active communication, research seminars and workshops.
• Perform other duties on a need basis such as company staff training and entering various competitions.
The successful candidate must possess:
• Knowledge and experience of material testing and/or understanding of environmental laboratory procedures
• Experience of project management or previous problem-solving role with good understanding of data analysis and data presentation.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Enthusiastic, persistence, flexible working, and good interpersonal skills
• Practical skills to solve problems with ability to develop experimental test rigs and sampling protocols.
• Project management and/or good time management skills with the ability to manage own workload and meet tight deadlines
• Ability to relate and communicate effectively with staff and customers in a commercial SME environment
In addition, the perfect candidate would also have the following:
• Leadership skills and abilities to deal with people from a variety of background
• Experience in the operation of analytical techniques (e.g. ICP, XRD, XRF) and microscopic equipment (e.g. SEM)
