Canterbury Community Shelter Co-ordinator and Deputy Co-ordinator

Hours: Full-time (£23,817 per annum for the Co-ordinator)
(£21,000 per annum for the Deputy Co-ordinator)

Contract type: Co-ordinator - Fixed term 8 months (Commencing 15th August 2018)
Deputy Co-ordinator – Fixed term 7 months (Commencing 3rd September 2018)

Location: Canterbury, East Kent

Closing date: Midday on Monday 23rd July 2018

CatchingLives are seeking to employ a Co-ordinator and Deputy to run the Canterbury Community Shelter for its 9th year of operation. This is a rolling night shelter that houses the rough sleepers of Canterbury during the winter months. It is a varied, challenging and rewarding job that involves being responsible for the set up and running of a 24 hour a day shelter operation that ususally runs for 3 months but for the first time, this year, will be open for 6 months (1st October 2018 to 31st March 2019).

The working week will require both the Coordinator and deputy to be flexible, managing and co-ordinating the shelter at each of its seven church venues from the central hub that is Canterbury Open Centre. This includes training, building and maintaining a strong team of Project Workers and volunteers, numbering 100 or more. In the mornings, this will involve interview and risk assessments of homeless people hoping to use the shelter, managing referrals, liaising closely with CatchingLives Day Centre Project Team and Canterbury City Council’s Housing Solutions team.

The Deputy Co-ordinator will support and cover for the Co-ordinator, as necessary, and will work one overnight shift (7.45pm to 8.45am) overseeing the clients, whilst the shelter is in operation.

You will be in charge of a small staff team and a large team of volunteers, working with vulnerable adults (which include those with mental health and substance misuse issues). Experience with the client group is preferred but not essential, as training will be given. The post is subject to Enhanced DBS checks.

For more information please telephone 01227 464904 and ask for Terry Gore, or email Terry to ask for a copy of the role description (please indicate whether you wish to receive one or both). Once this has been received send a CV along with a covering email, detailing why you think would be suitable for the roles, clearly headed ‘CCSC Application’ to terry@catchinglives.org

The closing date for applications is Monday 23rd July 2018 and interviews will take place on Tuesday 31st July 2018 and Wednesday 1st August 2018.
