Leading independent product based business in North Kent are looking for an Operational Controller to support the Finance Director with the analysis, P&L reporting, cost/profit analysis and overall performance of this subsidiary. As part of the organic growth into new markets, this position has arisen to provide key insights into the daily performance of this fast moving business unit, support improvements to operational efficiency in the packhouse and warehouse.
This is a really interesting role that gets into the heartbeat of the business at the operational level within the production facility as well as being the key business partner to the Senior Leadership Team. This is a highly visible role that works closely with the Managing Director, department heads, Finance Director and customers.
Detailed duties of the Operational Controller;
• Produce daily/weekly/period reports for the service provision team and work towards, automating these reports.
• Work with the service provision team to improve reports that show performance against KPI’s.
• Provide analysis and insight at service provision team meetings.
• Take ownership of the profit and loss statement, review, analyse and provide commentary on a periodic basis.
• Prepare slides for period review and board packs.
• On a weekly basis check the stock report. Identify stock that has not moved since the previous report and check that it still exists and is in good condition.
• Perform spot checks on stock, system v physical and physical v system.
• Review current process for handling market and waste product produced through a shop order. Ensure that this is being correctly recorded through shop orders. Where waste is produced ensure that this is being scrapped. Where market is being produced ensure that this is moved to a market location for sale.
• Ensure that market stock is cleared from the building and system promptly.
• Support the team with identifying and tendering for new business.
• Support the team with efficiency improvements projects (both packhouse & warehouse), ensure that data is captured to record and quantify the efficiency improvement.
• Contribute to the process of identifying efficiency and cost reduction opportunities and make suggestions as to how this can be achieved.
• Support annual budget process and ad hoc reforecasting.

The successful candidate must be;

• Excellent communication skills, able to adapt style to suit audience – shop floor to Board
• Confidence with stakeholders and presenting complex information
• Agile, problem solving mind, who can spot risk and opportunity throughout the business
• Thrive in a fast paced, dynamic environment
• Advanced level Excel
• Formally qualified with a recognised accountancy qualification
