One Year Fixed Term Contract

A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for an Environment Warden to join our busy, award winning Environmental Response team on a full time one year fixed term contract basis.

Environment Wardens provide a visible presence aiming to reduce anti-social behaviour and improve the environment and quality of life in Swale. The role will involve a balance of education and enforcement, and consequently there is the potential for some confrontation when tackling environmental matters such as littering and dog fouling. You will need to be confident in communicating with all members of the public, and committed to using your powers and influencing skills effectively to achieve the service aims. You will be required to undertake inspections of play areas, and cemetaries for which training will be supplied.

You will build effective working relationships with other individuals within the community to minimise anti-social behaviour, e.g. police, community support officers, wardens, other SBC staff, local businesses, neighbourhood watch, the voluntary sector and individual residents.
A full driving licence is required. Knowledge of environmental law and other relevant legislation would be advantageous.
You will be educated to GCSE standard with A-C passes in English and Mathematics, or able to demonstrate experience of working at a level requiring similar educational standard.
Will need to meet the requirements of Kent Police Vetting procedures.
There will be a requirement to undertake early morning and evening work, as well as some weekend working.

The Council considers this to be a customer focused role and the ability to converse at ease with customers adapting communication style to suit differing audiences and provide advice in accurate spoken English is fundamental to the role.

Swale Borough Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, and expects all employee and volunteers to share this commitment

For further information or to discuss this opportunity in more detail, please contact Alister Andrews, Environmental Response Manager on 01795 417320 or Geraldine Chidley, Principal Environmental Warden on 01795 417572.
