We are looking to appoint 1 x Permanent and 1 x Fixed Term (12 months) Community Support Services Assistants.

Are you enthusiastic, motivated, considerate, patient and would like a career supporting adults with a learning disability? Then join us at Canterbury Oast Trust as a Community Support Services Assistant to work across our supported living homes across Ashford, New Romney and Woodchurch.

Canterbury Oast Trust takes pride in providing good quality care and support for adults with learning disabilities across Kent and East Sussex. Our Community Support Services enables individuals to live more independent lives. Each individual has their own tenancy agreement, together with an innovative and individually tailored care package. We currently have eight properties within the service each with their own unique facilities and amenities. The ethos of all our homes is to support independence, dignity, choice and achievement by helping people to live the lives they choose.

As a Community Support Services Assistant for adults with a learning disability you will:

o Provide good quality care and support to the adults based on their needs through a person-centred approach
o Assist them in every aspect of their daily lives in accordance with their care contract which may include supporting with shopping; food preparation; cleaning; ironing; gardening
o Accompanying/driving tenants to services/community visits and appointments
o Assist with home management e.g. payment of bills, making appointments
o Provide a safe and supportive environment that enables individuals to feel valued, reach their potential and nurture their aspirations
o Maintain appropriate records and written reports


The ideal candidate to be successful in this role will:

o Have an appreciation of the needs of people with learning disabilities
o Be considerate, calm, patient, self-motivated, enthusiastic, respectful, non-judgmental and professional
o Be flexible as variable shifts include early/late days; long days; weekends, sleep-ins; as allocated on a monthly rota
o Have an understanding or experience of the needs of people with learning disabilities
o Have sound interpersonal skills
o Possess good verbal and written communication skills plus basic IT and report writing skills
o Care Certificate training provided
o A Health and Social Care NVQ2 or Level 2 Diploma Qualification or be working towards or a willingness to work towards within 18 months of commencement
o Hold a driving licence due to our rural location and the requirement to attend appointments/activities with service users.
