Then join us at Canterbury Oast Trust as a Support Worker (Peripatetic) to work across our Residential and Community Services based at Aldington, Ashford, New Romney, Rye and Woodchurch.

Canterbury Oast Trust takes pride in providing first class care and support for adults with learning disabilities across Kent and East Sussex. We provide long-term accommodation and care for 93 residents and tenants across nine residential and six independent living settings in unique family style homes The ethos of all our homes is to support independence, dignity, choice and achievement by helping people to live the lives they choose.

As a Peripatetic Support Worker for adults with a learning disability and in some instances complex needs you will:

o Provide good quality care and support to the adults based on their needs through a person-centred approach
o Accompany the adults to their life-skills sessions such as music; art; sensory sessions
o Assist them in every aspect of their daily lives, including personal care
o Provide a safe and supportive environment that enables individuals to feel valued, reach their potential and nurture their aspirations
o Maintain appropriate records and written reports
o Plan trips and activities
o Work across all sites within the Trust in both residential and community settings


The ideal candidate to be successful in this role will:

o Have an appreciation of the needs of adults with learning disabilities
o Be considerate, calm, patient, self-motivated, enthusiastic, respectful, non-judgmental and professional
o Be flexible as variable shifts include long days; weekends, sleep-ins; occasional awake nights as allocated on a monthly rota
o Have an understanding or experience of autism, dementia and epilepsy although not essential
o Have knowledge of specialist equipment although not essential as person handling training will be provided
o Have sound interpersonal skills
o Possess good verbal and written communication skills plus basic IT and report writing skills
o Care Certificate training provided
o A willingness to work towards achieving a NVQ2 Diploma in Health and Social Care qualification within 18 months of commencement
o Hold a driving licence due to our rural locations and the requirement to attend appointments/activities with service users.
