About the role: The Halley Academy have a highly successful Designated Specialist Provision (DSP) which provides support and inclusion for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN). Our DSP Team provide our pupils with the best possible learning environment to meet their individual needs, and we strive to provide the resources, trained staff, and specialist support to maximise the pupil’s ability to:

communicate and interact with others
develop and improve their social skills
access the curriculum
improve their independence
develop their literacy and numeracy skills
learn within the mainstream environment
gain appropriate qualifications to equip them for future employment
to develop the life skills to participate and be included in the wider community
make friends and enjoy the company of others!


We have a rare opportunity to expand our team and are seeking to appoint a Teaching Assistant who will relish the chance to work in this environment, and will excel at providing the best support possible for our students.

The working basis of this role is 35 hours per week during Term Time, plus one additional week on INSET when training is provided. The hours are 8.25am – 3.40pm with 1 meeting a week (Wednesdays) until 4.45pm. TAs are also required to supervise and support lunch breaks for DSP students. The remuneration offered is Scale 2 (SCP 10-13) FTE £19,881 - £19,935 per annum actual salary £17,252 - £17,299 per annum, based on the experience that our successful candidate brings with them.

The DSP places high value on staff training, and we aim to develop highly skilled staff that are empowered to take responsibility for key areas of teaching, and managing the learning environment. All teaching assistants are given training in ASD, and where possible complete an online accredited training course.
