Applications are invited to become the founding Head of the School of Engineering, Technology and Design. The successful candidate’s principal responsibility will be to nurture and manage the School to deliver an excellent student experience, internationally excellent research and knowledge exchange and an outstanding work environment for staff. The post holder is also expected to make a research and/or teaching contribution to one area of the School’s portfolio.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape the engineering and technology provision being developed at the University and to work with a wide range of partners to transform engineering education in the region. The project has received significant capital investment from the Office of Students and the South Eastern Local Enterprise Partnership to generate ‘work-ready’ graduates and an innovative curriculum by utilising the CDIO approach. The new School will be formally established in August 2019 and move into a new building during the summer of 2020. The founding head will be expected to create an inclusive, flexible and supportive work environment, which will embrace innovation and work closely with engineering/technology companies.

We value both academic and industrial experience and welcome applications from a wide range of engineering backgrounds. The successful candidate will have a Higher Degree or equivalent, and experience in research and/or knowledge exchange in a relevant area. Have an appreciation of operating in a multi-disciplinary environment; and extensive experience of successful leadership. The post holder will possess excellent leadership skills and abilities, reflecting the qualities set out in the University Leadership Framework.

Consideration will be given to conferring the title of Professor provided that the applicant meets the University’s published criteria.
