Wellbeing Coordinators - Ageless Thanet Project
£18,617 per annum
1 x 39 hours per week or 2 part time jobshare (20 hours each) 2 Year Fixed Term Contract
1 x 39 hours per week (Maternity Cover) or 2 part time jobshare (20 hours each) up to 1 year Fixed Term Contract
‘Wellbeing’ is part of the Big Lottery funded ‘Ageless Thanet’ project (part of the national Ageing Better campaign). The project is a partnership of voluntary, statutory and private sector organisation that have come together to improve physical and mental wellbeing and reduce loneliness and social isolation in older people.
We want to change people’s perceptions of ageing, and show people that growing old is positive and to be embraced. We want Thanet’s older people to make their voices heard and will help them to achieve this, working together, in partnership, cross-sector and with the community. Ageless Thanet’s aim is to make Thanet a great place to grow old.
The Coordinators will assist the Community Manager in the delivery of the Ageless Thanet ‘Wellbeing’ programme in Thanet; this aims to identify, develop and deliver a varied and diverse programme of opportunities available to Thanet residents age 50 and over. This in turn will have the aim of meeting the objectives and funding criteria of the Big Lottery funded Ageless Thanet project and Service Level Agreement with Social Enterprise Kent.
The role will involve the Coordinators working in support of the Manager and alongside a number of providers encouraging participation in the Ageless Thanet Wellbeing programme. For example, running a range of activities (cultural, physical and artistic) to improve the physical and mental wellbeing of vulnerable older people in Thanet. Ideally this will attract 5000 participants over the course of the project with the expectation that the majority will feel our community-based wellbeing activities have improved their health and reduced feelings of loneliness by the end of the project.
The Coordinators must be willing to integrate with other colleagues and Your Leisure community projects as well as potentially other workstreams within the Ageless Thanet project to complement the programme and enhance the delivery of our charitable objectives.
Applicants must have relevant experience of working with older people and an understanding of the issues affecting members of the community aged 50 and over. In addition, candidates must have:
• Proven experience / methods of working and communicating with older people to promote participation and involvement.
• An understanding of the relevant services and agencies working with older people.
• Confidence and enthusiasm for engaging with groups and individuals.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• The ability to work on occasion unsupervised but also to work as part of a team.
• Flexibility in approach to their working hours.
Part time applicants must indicate what hours / days they are available to work.
