An exciting opportunity for a Trainee Optical Engineer to work in a fast-growing company based in the UK with a newly-established U.S.A office. This is a highly technical field that offers the opportunity to work with some of the biggest and most cutting edge technology and aerospace companies in the world.
This position requires a Trainee Optical Engineer to manufacture optical components to specification. To become knowledgeable about sheet materials, coatings and specifications (training will be given). Working alongside the Quality Assurance department and our state of the art Metrology Lab to ensure specifications are met.
You will manage and maintain sheet materials in the warehouse. Ensuring that all materials are correctly labelled, stored and ordered to requirement.
Manufacturing:
Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
• Cutting material to size, maximising material yield.
• Stack material using different techniques ready for grinding/edging.
• Read optical component drawings/specifications.
• Grind/Edge material to specification.
• Polish material to specification.
• Chamfering material.
• Using Micrometres to measure optical components.
• Correct method to handle and clean optical components.
• Correct method to packaging optical components.
• Managing stock.
• Inspecting Optical Components to specification.
• Manage and maintain sheet material in the stock room.
• Ensure materials are correctly stored and clearly marked.
• Maintain stock control of sheet material.
• Help out in QA when required.
• Checking measurements against specification.
• Raising non-conformances with suppliers/manufacturing.
• Using Metrology Lab equipment to inspect optical components.
• Reporting findings to QA and Sales team.
Qualifications and experience:
Essential:
• GCSE Pass in Maths and English Essential, Science beneficial.
• Genuine interest in science and technology.
• Good listening skills.
• Keen to learn.
• Good eye for detail.
• Exceptional organisational skills.
• Able to work to deadlines
Desirable:
• Experience of manufacturing, reading technical drawings, AutoCAD.
• A’Level Maths, Science subjects.
Key Skills:
• Knowledge of Word
• Knowledge of Excel
• Knowledge of Outlook
• Good communication skills
• Excellent telephone manner
• SAP (Training will be given)
