Current Vacancies:

1 x Full Time Vacancy (5 days per week)

Purpose of Role:

To develop and manage a consistent, high quality service across East Sussex to help Young Carers (5-18yrs) build resilience and achieve their full potential. Supporting Young Carers from the point of referral via local support groups, 1:1 work and working with other agencies.

Main Duties:

* Receive referrals from the Central Young Carers Hub
* Work alongside statutory services and initiate appropriate referral
* Develop action plans with Young Carers; monitor and review
* Establish local support/social groups for the Young Carers based on need.
* These may be mental health or substance misuse focused
* Signpost appropriately in accordance with agreed action plan
* Identify local respite and short breaks for Young Carers
* Support Young Carers to access mainstream community services
* Recruit and manage volunteers to support Young Carers
* Work with community partners to identify opportunities for Young Carers
* Assist with and ensure any Safeguarding concerns that occur within the project are dealt with appropriately with the support of IMAGO’s Safeguarding Lead

Qualities/skills:

* Ability to work independently, organising work to meet targets, objectives and deadlines
* Ability to stay calm in a crisis and be measured in your response; be non-judgemental and measured in your actions
* Ability to work within professional boundaries
* Excellent oral communication and written skills, ability to motivate others and an empathy with the aims of the organisation
* Good organisational and time management skills
* Ability to form effective relationships with Young Carers, volunteers and colleagues at all levels
* A commitment to equal opportunities, diversity and making services accessible to all sections of the community
* Excellent computer skills, including the use of social media

Essential Experience:

* Relevant personal or professional experience in social care, health, education, private or voluntary and community sector
* Experience of working with children and young people
* Experience of working with complex family dynamics
* Knowledge of issues relating to Mental health and Substance misuse
* Knowledge of East Sussex area
* Hold a current driving licence and have access to own transport is essential

Desirable Experience:

* Personal experience of being a carer
* Knowledge of issues relating to young people and their educational and social development and how they impact and affect Young Carers
